Hi Sarah,

I enjoyed reading your blog about attempting the Master Cleanse. I am an acquisitions editor for Ulysses Press in Berkeley, California; we published the book The Complete Master Cleanse. Currently, we are looking for people to share their experiences with the Master Cleanse for another book and I was hoping you might be interested. Again, thanks for sharing your experience!

best regards,
Keith Riegert

Thanks for your comment. I didn't mean to sound like I didn't care about my cats health. And I appreciate you comment and will definitely buy better kitty food in the future. Actually I just found out that someone I know gets cat food that is natural and suppose to be more of the kind of food you say a cat should be eating. And they get it at a pretty low cost so I was already going to start getting that.
Thanks for your comment, and caring for my cat :)

You may not care what you eat, but please, please care about what little kitty eats. Yes, he loves eating the bargain grocery store food. Think about it - kids love eating McDonald's, too. It doesn't mean it's good for them.

Cats do not digest corn. It passes right through them. Corn is an inexpensive filler. Just as in humans, too much corn can raise blood sugar in cats. Little kitty might be needing daily insulin shots from you years down the road when he's not so happy. There are also meat by-products, which is basically what is swept off of the slaughterhouse floor - and, sometimes, euthanized animals from shelters.

I'll be honest - I fed my cat Special Kitty from Wal-Mart for 7 years. I figured they wouldn't be allowed to sell a cat food if it was bad for cats. Unfortunately, there are no regulations on pet food. That's why companies like Purina can say Cat Chow "adds 2 years" to a cat's life without any evidence to back it up. It was after the recent pet food recall scare that I started to look into what I was feeding my cat.

Here's what to look for - no grains, and no by-products. Odds are, you will not find these foods at the grocery store, but at a pet store. Yes, it will cost more. However, your cat will not eat as much as your cat will not have to eat as much to get the nutrients he needs. You will go through less litter as he will not be eliminating the undigested corn. Not to mention the savings on vet bills down the road.
